Frequently asked questions

Do you submit to medical aid? +
Yes, we submit to medical aid after treatment on your behalf
                  but it is still your
responsibility to ensure that your medical aid plan covers the work that you have
done. If there is any shortfall you are liable to pay the balance. Please ensure you are
familiar with your own medical aid plan to prevent any unwanted surprises.

What medical aids do you accept? +
We are contracted out to discovery and GEMS. We do also submit
                  to most medical
aids but are not part of the keycare network. If you are unsure as to whether your
medical aid will be accepted please give our reception a call.

What if I need to cancel an appointment?+
We reserve the right to charge a cancellation fee if you
                  cancel within 24 hours of
your appointment time or if you fail to attend your appointment.

              What are your prices? +
We charge medical aid rates. It is difficult to provide you
                  with an accurate cost
estimation without a consultation. We recommend booking a consultation first. If a
lot of work is required or if the cost is estimated to be high we can draw up an
accurate quote and email the quote to you after the first visit. This quote can be sent
by you to your medical aid to determine how much they will cover.

              How often should I visit a dentist?+
We recommend seeing us for a full check-up at least once a
                  year where we do x-rays
and a clean. If we identify you to be at a higher risk for cavities or gum disease then
we may recommend that you come in more often. Dental cleanings should be done
                  every 6 months.

              Do you offer braces?+
We offer assessment and treatment for children who present
                  with early signs of
malocclusion. Please see our interceptive orthodontics page for more information.
We do not currently offer braces for adults and teens. We can assess your bite and
refer you to a trusted orthodontist close by who will take good care of your smile.

              Do you offer tooth whitening?+
Yes! Please see our tooth whitening page for more
                  information.

I don’t have medical aid, can I still come to the practice?+

Yes, we also see private patients.

I’m very anxious to come to a dentist. What can you do to make the dental
                  appointment more bearable?+
Please let us know if you are nervous to be seeing us so we
                  can give you some extra
TLC. If you don’t enjoy the sounds of the dental equipment you are welcome to bring
along some earphones and listen to music that helps you to relax. If we need to do
an injection we always make use of topical anesthetic before injecting and warm up
the solution so that it is more comfortable during the injection. Our assistant Gloria
is a professional hand holder and you are more than welcome to make use of her
                  services.

I’ve had issues in the past with getting numb. What can be done to help this?+
Please let us know if you have had this issue before so that
we can adjust the way in
which we inject to ensure you feel no pain during the appointment. Coming in to the
appointment as relaxed as possible will also help us to get you numb more easily.

How often should I brush my teeth and floss?+
Brushing your teeth gently but thoroughly with a soft
                  toothbrush twice a day is
sufficient. Flossing at least once a day is necessary to prevent cavities in between
                  your teeth.

When should I start bringing my child to the dentist?+

The earlier the better! Sometimes issues in the mouth may not
                  be visible until they
start to cause pain. Bringing your child in from the age of 3 or 4 before any problems
are present helps to create a positive association with the dentist and prevent a
                  dental phobia.

              Do you offer sedation?+
We offer sedation and nitrous oxide as an option for
children. We will need to see
your child for a consultation beforehand and can then discuss options with you.

Do you offer treatment in theatre?+
We offer theatre as an option when children have extensive
                  work that needs to be
done. We will need to see your child for a consultation beforehand and can then
                  discuss options with you.
